Assistant Production Manager
Seeking an Assistant Production Manager to help oversee commercial truck upfitting, fabrication, equipment installation, production scheduling, quality control, and shop personnel.
The ideal candidate will have strong commercial truck-equipment experience and working knowledge of hydraulic systems, power take-off systems, commercial vehicle electrical systems, fabrication, truck-body mounting, and equipment integration.
This position will help oversee builds involving mechanic trucks, service trucks, water trucks, lube trucks, dump trucks, flatbeds, hooklift trucks, and other vocational vehicles.
Requirements
Five or more years of experience in commercial truck upfitting, vocational truck equipment, truck-body installation, fleet fabrication, or a closely related field.
Two or more years of experience as a production supervisor, shop foreman, lead technician, installation manager, or similar leadership position.
Strong working knowledge of:
Hydraulic pumps, reservoirs, valves, cylinders, hoses, fittings, filters, and controls.
Power take-off systems and hydraulic pump applications
Commercial vehicle electrical systems, wiring, relays, switches, lighting, controls, grounding, and circuit protection.
Truck-body mounting, subframes, structural supports, fabrication, and welding.
Chassis dimensions, axle ratings, payload limitations, equipment placement, and weight distribution
Truck-mounted cranes, compressors, generators, welders, hoists, pumps, reels, tanks, liftgates, and related equipment.
Direct experience with multiple types of vocational trucks, such as mechanic trucks, service trucks, water trucks, lube trucks, dump trucks, flatbeds, hooklifts, or crane trucks.
Ability to read and interpret work orders, technical drawings, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, installation manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
Ability to recognize and resolve hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, structural, and installation problems.
Experience managing technicians, production schedules, labor hours, quality standards, and project deadlines.
Strong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Basic proficiency with email, spreadsheets, scheduling systems, and electronic work-order software.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to communicate directly with customers regarding build specifications, equipment selection, production progress, technical concerns, and completed vehicle operation.
Working knowledge of applicable FMVSS, federal and California DOT requirements, CHP requirements, crane safety standards, and other regulations affecting commercial truck upfits.
Familiarity with incomplete vehicle documentation, final-stage manufacturing responsibilities, certification labels, weight ratings, and the process of completing an incomplete chassis into a compliant finished vehicle.
Ability to identify build requests that may create safety, compliance, weight, clearance, or operational concerns and communicate those issues clearly to customers, management, and production personnel.
Ability to document customer-approved specifications, changes, and compliance-related decisions throughout the production process.
Responsibilities
Plan and manage the daily production schedule for all active truck builds and equipment installations.
Assign work to technicians, welders, fabricators, electricians, and installers based on experience and project requirements.
Monitor projects from chassis arrival through installation, testing, final inspection, and delivery.
Review work orders, drawings, specifications, installation instructions, and customer requirements.
Identify compatibility issues, clearance problems, weight concerns, missing components, and production risks before they delay a project.
Provide technical direction related to hydraulics, PTO systems, electrical systems, fabrication, body mounting, and equipment installation.
Coordinate with manufacturers, vendors, technical-support personnel, sales, purchasing, and parts departments.
Inspect work throughout the production process to ensure installations meet company and manufacturer standards.
Verify proper operation of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and auxiliary equipment systems.
Track labor hours, project progress, production efficiency, and completion dates.
Investigate labor overruns, rework, delays, and missed production targets.
Supervise production employees and maintain accountability for workmanship, productivity, attendance, safety, and shop organization.
Participate in hiring, training, performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary actions.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized production environment.
Develop and improve production procedures, quality-control checkpoints, workflow, job staging, and documentation.
Provide management with accurate updates regarding backlog, capacity, staffing needs, and projected completion dates.
